IS THE RIGHT SIDE THE WRONG SIDE?

Gatos Fedorento’s four humorists are being target of threats made by the extreme right wing, as a response to an outdoor they placed in Marquês de Pombal, in which they express their opinion against the xenophobic message from the Partido Nacional Renovador (PNR).

PNR fixated a notice in Marquês de Pombal, in Lisbon, last Wednesday, the 4th of April, which is clearly xenophobic and against the immigrants.

Gato Fedorento, the well know humorist quartet, as a response, created an identical notice, placed right next to the other one, in which the humorists parody the right’s by writing the exact opposite of every sentence they wrote. “It is a message with which we do not agree. It’s a polemical message and polemical messages as well as any polemical thing ends up to be funny.” says José Diogo Quintela, a member of Gato Fedorento.

Lisbon’s Town-Hall (CML), which usually takes a long time to decide anything, was very quick when it came to detache the notice (only took 24 hours), accusing Gato Fedorento of not having a “legal authorization” as stated by the town councillor of public spaces, António Prôa. The CML decided to remove both bills. The PNR’s because it was so vandalized that it was visually polluting the area. The Gato Fedorento’s because it hadn’t a license. “When we saw that it was allowed to post grotesque messages is Marquês de Pombal, we didn’t want to be behind. I only regret that the PNR’s bill is so destroyed, because if one could read it, ours, next to it, would be even funnier” said Ricardo Araújo Pereira, other member of Gato Fedorento. He also said “it wasn’t hard to get a licence, because we didn’t ask for one”.

Now the four comedians are being threatened by the extreme right wing. This party is known to be the author of many cases of violence, like: threats, beatings, murders, illegal weapon possession, among others. Besides it has suspicious financing and it is known to keep relations with skinheads and the National Front. The threats are being posted online, in the Nationalist’s Forum, where some typers claim to be willing to physically harm any of the four humorists. “To greet them I think one of these days I’m going to make a little visit to the school at leaving time (…) where one of those left-wing bourgeois has his child studying” wrote one nationalist, naming the school where Ricardo Araújo Pereira has his daughter. Other nationalist said that “as from this day, they may be put under any violence”. Ricardo said to the DN “no comment, but I’ve reported the case to the authorities”, “our bill is an humorous act, not a political act. It’s a political joke, I will not promise that it won’t have political consequences”, the comedian added.

Apparently, with the PNR, which is up to no good, there is tolerance. With Gato Fedorento there is inflexibility. It seems that the law is strict with humorists and soft with capitalists.

i think that pnr overeacted. there is no need for threats, i mean, they were just making fun, it's their job!
of course gato fedorento should have a license to put the outdoor like pnr did. law is applied to everyone

It is true that the removal of Gato Fedorento's poster was the right thing to be done, since they had no license to post it. However, we believe the removal of PNR's poster was a bit unfair as we live in a democratic free of speech society, therefore the City-Hall should have never interfered with their ideas.
Concerning these arguments, we strongly disagree with the last sentence of the article.
